Our Story
FACT began with a single person, Moira Dixon, who recognised a gap in the island’s support network. Many cancer patients — particularly those who had relocated to Tenerife from abroad — found themselves struggling to communicate with doctors, attend appointments, understand treatment options, or manage at home during recovery. Language barriers, cultural differences and the absence of a family support network compounded an already challenging diagnosis.
What started as a few volunteers offering lifts to hospital appointments and helping with translations gradually developed into a broader organisation with structured support services, coordinated volunteer teams and specialised roles. Over the years, FACT has become an essential companion to patients and families on the island, offering practical help delivered with empathy, confidentiality and dignity.
Today, FACT continues to operate in that same spirit: a community of volunteers helping their neighbours, united by compassion and the belief that nobody should have to battle cancer in isolation.
Our Mission and Values
Our mission is to provide comprehensive, compassionate and practical support to individuals affected by cancer in Tenerife and to ensure that they are able to access treatment, understand their options and maintain dignity and wellbeing throughout their journey.
We operate under four guiding values:
Compassion — recognising the emotional weight of cancer and responding with sensitivity and respect.
Practicality — focusing on real, tangible help that makes an immediate difference.
Dignity — ensuring patients feel heard, respected and in control wherever possible.
Community — bringing people together to support one another in meaningful ways.
